Transparency Wins: Removing Hidden Fees

Hidden Fees Graphic Header

California has finally addressed the issue of hidden fees in the hotel and resort industry. Before, hotels could advertise a room at a certain price and, when it came time to check out, tack on hidden fees that ended up increasing the cost significantly. Now, hotels are required to disclose all mandatory fees upfront in their advertised room rates, excluding government taxes and fees. By doing so, this law promotes transparency and seeks to eliminate the surprise and frustration often experienced by consumers during the booking process.

Highlights:

Transparent Pricing: Hotels are now required to include all mandatory fees and charges in their advertised room rates, ensuring that the price you see is the price you pay.

Total Price Disclosure: Before booking a stay, consumers will have access to the total price to be paid, excluding government taxes and fees.

Consumer Protection: This law prioritizes consumer rights and ensures that consumers’ interests are safeguarded when booking accommodations.
