Back to School Health Fair to offer medical, safety tips - Palo Alto Weekly

From disaster preparedness tips to free immunizations, this Saturday's Back to School Health Fair in East Palo Alto will offer many local resources to prepare children and families for this school year.

Hosted by Assemblyman Marc Berman, D-Palo Alto, the free event will provide flu shots plus vision, hearing, dental and Hepatitis B screenings, according to Berman's office. There will also be booths featuring organizations from across the 24th Assembly District that will provide information on local resources such as free legal services, therapy, service support animals and health care providers.

"This is an opportunity for attendees to take full advantage of the resources and services that are available at the health fair," Berman said.

People will be able to directly connect with exhibitors and learn more about specific programs and resources available to them. Art in Action, Stanford Health Library and Second Harvest Food Bank are among the local organizations that will present at the fair.

The event aims to educate families on wellness and provide information about community benefits. There will be sessions on disaster readiness and safety tips for emergencies. In addition, free school supplies will be given to any student in attendance.

"It's a great opportunity for students to get school supplies and health screenings, both of which are critical for a successful school year," Berman said.

Since being elected to the state Assembly in 2016, Berman said he has prioritized hosting an annual back-to-school health fair. He makes it a point to rotate the event around the district, which roughly spans from Half Moon Bay to Sunnyvale, so that residents from each community can benefit from the resources and services provided.

No RSVP is necessary and free snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The back-to-school health fair is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ravenswood Middle School, 2450 Ralmar Ave., East Palo Alto. For more information, visit a23.asmdc.org.
